How to configure a computer having both Microsoft Access 2007 and ShoWorks 2006ArticleID: 117032 Category: General Date Added: 7/27/2007 Date Last Updated: 1/10/2009
Summary:
ShoWorks 2006 will not function correctly if Microsoft Access 2007 (and future versions)
are installed incorrectly.
Note: This problem only occurs in older versions of ShoWorks (ShoWorks
2006 and prior) and not in ShoWorks 2009.
Causes:
Install procedures of Microsoft Access 2007 interfere with the Microsoft Windows
registry and affect any dependent programs.
Solution:
Install ShoWorks 2006 and Microsoft Access (Office) in the following manner:
- Uninstall completely ShoWorks 2006 by selecting Start>>Control Panel>>Add/Remove
Programs (or “Programs and Features” if using Windows Vista)
- Uninstall completely any and
all versions of Microsoft Access and/or Microsoft Office.
- Restart Windows.
- (Optional) Install Microsoft Access 2003 or Office 2003, however choose “Custom”
when installing and do not install in the default directory of C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office, but rather install into a new directory such as “C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office 2003”. You may decide to only install Access 2003, if you are planning on
later installing the whole suite of Microsoft Office 2007 in step 6.
- Install ShoWorks 2006 into the default path. If you have also installed Microsoft
Access 2003 in the above step, then you may also choose to install the ShoWorks
Companion for Access when prompted. If the install process does not automatically
locate where Microsoft Access 2003 is installed, you may manually locate it when
prompted. In the above example, the file will be located at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office 2003\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE
- (Optional) Install Microsoft Access 2007 or Office 2007 and:
- choose “Custom”
when installing
- Then click the "Upgrade" tab and place a check in the box that reads
"Keep previous versions".
- Then click the "File Location" tab and make sure that it does NOT have "Access
Runtime" in the path. If so, change this to something like "Microsoft
Office" or "Microsoft Office 2007"
- You
should now let this install process install Access (or Office) in the default directory.
- You may now run ShoWorks and other versions of Access on the same machine. Special
note: If you have installed Microsoft Access 2007, you should avoid opening Access
frequently, as doing so resets the Windows registry and will require rebooting and
long wait times for both Access and ShoWorks to start. Microsoft Access 2003 does
not interfere with ShoWorks./li>
